Addictions and Some Sage Advice From Stephen King

Some days I feel really guilty about my night stand.  I have a problem.  This is my to read/re-read pile. Having this pile doesn’t stop me from adopting more books.  These books do not include what I’m also reading with my boys and what I’m listening to on audio.

And for my birthday I just got one of these…

It’s totally awesome by the way–but may not "help" with my addiction.  (Although it makes that addiction portable.) I can easily fit all those night stand books into my purse with this little cutie!

You might think my problem is that I don’t spend enough time reading.  I read a lot–I really do.  It’s just that the day isn’t as long as I’d like it to be. *grin*

But there is good news–I may not be able to add extra hours to my day, but I’m doing what I need to do to be a good writer.  How do I know?  Heck–Stephen King told me so…

I‘ll sneak in that reading time where ever I can, but my favorite time is curled up in my cozy bed with my book light.  When do you love to read?

  1. LOL! I love that King clip! It's so true.

And I hear ya about the Kindle. I love mine, but now I have a whole virtual TBR pile to go along with my physical one. *sigh* At least my virtual one isn't in any danger of toppling over and killing me.

  2. Ha! Ain't that the truth!

  3. Great post, Kim – very wise & funny words from Stephen King! I read all the time, so I hope it helps my writing, too!

And my nightstand looks a lot like yours – I see we have many of the same titles on our book pile! Yeah, the only problem with the tall, teetering pile is running out of room. So I think the e-reader is an amazing invention. (But I have a Nook, of course, haha!)

There are still many books that I'll always have & keep physical copies of, like many of the books that I already have; books by my very favorite authors, & signed copies of books by local authors. In the Fall of 2012, I plan to add your hardcover book to my tall, teetering pile on my nightstand! 🙂

  4. I agree-I'm still going to have a ton of paper books too. Some you've just got to hold in your hand!!!! <3 I like the nook a lot-I wanted something with very little outside distractions. *grin*

  5. Woo! Congratulations on the Kindle!!

  6. Thanks Logan!!!!

  7. LOL! My nightstand often looks like yours!
Also great video–I'm glad Stephen King supports our addiction! LOL

When do I read? Often when I'm waiting for my 2yo to sleep and he won't let me go but I have to remain silent. (That's when I love the e-reader, so I can read with a dim light!)

  8. Love it!

  9. Brilliant! Does this make Stephen King my enabler? *grin*

Awesome post as always! Now…off to read and write…!

  10. Ha!!!!!
