Oh, For Pete’s Sake

Filed under: Baby Book Blogger, Blogging, Fun and Games, Pondering

Who was the original Pete that has spawned this well used phrase? And am I even saying it right, because until Michelle Wolfson set me straight I’d always thought I had another thing coming. Yup, that’s why I’ve been stalking the UPS guy! the truth is that I have to think again because it’s…you’ve got another THINK coming. Who knew? Obviously Michelle and possibly Pete, but definitely not me.  Any way, the reason I’m talking about Pete really has nothing to do with his well being. My Internet accidentally got unplugged by the guys working in the house and the pile of wires looks like scary octopus spawn and I can’t get the dang thing figured out–even for Pete’s sake. May he rest in peace. He can’t possibly be still alive.

So, I’m on my iPad way past my mandatory early to bed, the kids are back inschool and I have to be up at 5:30 time, and I’m writing a blog post because I know your day couldn’t possibly be complete without this post. *snicker* I’ve got no links and because I believe that all good posts should have a picture, I’m gonna find you something special from whatever I can find on my iPad. On second thought…that may be a bit of a problem. But I’ll see what I can do from my phone.

Forgive the typos, the lack of links and the possible invisible picture. Please. Also tell me what your favorite thing to do when the Internet is out and you can’t say read because we’re all bookworms. LOL! Okay, this mess of a blog, not even proofread is going live now because I’m going to bed.

Let’s Pretend it’s Friday LOL!

Filed under: Blogging, Check-it-out, Family, Fun and Games, Vacation Madness

It’s now Saturday morning and I’ve just realized that I somehow missed Friday’s blog post. *head thunk* As much as I’ve enjoyed the summer, I think I really need fall to kick-into-gear so I can have a regular schedule. Sometimes us pansters need a little bit of structure to be effective free spirits LOL! So what was I doing instead of chatting with you? Well, I’ve been knee deep in swag, emails, construction on the house and…

These were some of my favorite pics from the day. I’m sure after seeing them, you will forgive me for being late. So, what are you going to miss now that the summer is coming to an end and what are you looking forward to in the fall?

Did Jackson miss anything??? What other stuff do you hear non-writers say that makes your toes curl?

And just to be fair…

Truth or Dare: A teamTEENauthor follow-up

Filed under: Dancing, Fun and Games, teamTEENauthor, YA Books, Young Adult (YA)

For information purposes, I’m going to copy a previous post right here to adequately explain why I’m going to do something really bizarre at the end of this post. So here–catch up…

Truth or Dare Challenge

So exciting! I’m attempting to join a new group of young adult authors called teamTEEN author (the brain child of  Julie Cross–author of  TEMPEST) In order to get the secret password into this new club and a shiny virtual medal…
(You know you want one too) I have decided to brave the Truth or Dare Challenge. Dum, dum, dum, dum. Why? Because I really want to be a part of this exciting new group–particularly because of  The Perfect Ten!!!!  What is The Perfect Ten you ask?

They are a hand-picked group of young adults who have been given an ARC of Touching the Surface for their ARC Relay!!!! You can learn more about The Perfect Ten by clicking on the link above. They look extremely cool. Yup-that’s ten amazing reasons why I should risk public humiliation. It sounds worth it to me.

So here’s how it’s going down. You dear reader, get to post a question for me to answer truthfully AND a dare. I will pick one–and I’ll either answer your question or take on your dare. If I do the dare I will post proof!! If I chicken out, I have to post a chicken pic on my blog for a week…sigh

So hit me with your best shot–teamTEENauthor–here I come!!!!

I’m also going to give you the link to the original post so you can check out the truth or dare comments. Original Post

But the short version is that I answered all of my truth questions and I decided to do a dare anyway. Cause that’s how I roll. I was challenged to do the chicken dance in a public place. I had originally attempted to do this on the corner of Main Street in my town, near the Post Office. (high traffic area) My 11yo was mortified. I decided to wait for the younger kids to be on spring break and try again. They haven’t hit peak embarrassment levels yet. It just so happens that on Wednesday I ran into a friend that I used to teach with. She just happened to tell my kids that I was a champ at embarrassing my former students. The winner being the time I did the Hokey Pokey in the cafeteria lunch line. *grin*

I knew I had an accomplice for my dare! Here is the chicken dance a la Kim in my local Target…

I know it doesn’t look like it from the video, but there were quite a few folks in the store as I was doing this (spring break and all) it’s just that they were FLEEING THE AREA!!! I wish I had a camera on my kids and the people rounding the corner behind them LOL! Looney Tune in Aisle seventeen!!! My own kid’s faces were a mix of bemused acceptance and horror. I could see the wheels turning as they realized that it might never be safe to bring a date home to mom. Of course my friend who took the video for me said…”Wow! I’ve missed you.” *love* I think I may have to do this more often. I’m going to proudly go hang up my teamTEENauthor medal now.

Before you go…spill the beans. What is the worst dare you’ve ever done? What would you do to be a teamTEENauthor? What embarrassing trait actually makes you pretty proud?

BTW–that was my first official YouTube video…how scary is that???

TAG–I’m it–or so Patty Blount tells me.

Filed under: Check-it-out, Fun and Games

Claire Legrand, author of The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls (August, 2012), started a game of author tag.  Patty Blount, with her debut novel SEND coming out August 1, 2012, has claimed to have tagged me. I’m skeptical. I ran seven miles on the morning of said “tag” and I’m pretty darn sure she didn’t even get close enough to touch me but–this sounds fun–so I’m going to play along anyway.

If you’re tagged, you have to do the following:

  1. Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript
  2. Go to line 7
  3. Copy down the next seven lines/sentences as they are – no cheating
  4. Tag 7 other authors

Here are my seven lines from page 77 from the first draft of THE OPPOSITE OF GRAVITY…

Today, keeping a low profile worked for me, although every time I looked up I’d catch Charlie staring at me. I pretended not to notice.

When the bell rang I gave an audible sigh. I was relieved that from here on in I didn’t have class with Danny, Julia or Charlie. I wouldn’t have to make small talk or have them checking up on me every time I found myself drifting into space. I could feel free to focus on trying to anticipate exactly what Mr. G was going to say and what I was going to say back.

                                                                                                *   *   *

            I’m not going to lie.

And there you have it. And in case you’re interested–there will be lies.

Now I must tag seven writers. Here they are…

1. Jodi Moore

2.Mindy Weiss

3. Megan Gilpin

4. S.J. Pajones

5 Carli Bandeira

6. Jeni Bell

7. Linda Hanlon
