2012 Brings Lots of Excitement: First Pass Pages, Website, YAmazing Race, NY SCBWI

Filed under: Apocalypsies, Touching the Surface, YA Books

The next time I write a blog post it will be 2012!!!!  I have to say, I don’t think I’ve ever looked forward to New Year’s Eve quite as much as I am this year.  I know it’s silly, but dipping a toe into 2012 feels like hitting another big milestone.  TOUCHING THE SURFACE is roughly 9 months away!!!

I’ve had three kids…I know what kinds of things can happen in a 9 month period. LOL!

So what are some of the things happening in the new year?  Well, first off–I have my first pass pages!!!  (Yes, I’m aware of my spastic over use of the exclamation point–it can’t be helped.)  If you’re not familiar, first pass pages are large sheets of paper that have my book laid out the way it will look when it’s really printed into a book.  Do you want a sneak peek?

This is the equivalent of two pages of text from the book.  Since I got them right before the hectic holidays, I’ve been hanging on to them until the kids are all back in school and the house is nice and quiet. It’s been awhile since I’ve read my book cover to cover, so I’m really excited to curl up with it again.  It’s also the last time that I get a chance to make any changes. *shivers* I’ve been fiddling with this baby for so long its a little scary to think that it’s finally time to send it out into the world.  I have butterflies of the very best kind.
More good news to watch for.  Next week will be the launch of my website!!!  Maybe I’m biased, but I think it’s gorgeous.  Do you want a sneak peek of that too?  Okay…here it is…
Yes, my blog will be moving to the new website on Word Press.  The old blog will be set up to redirect you to the new location, so hopefully no one will be lost in cyber space.  Of course I’ll let you know the minute the website is live, but just so you know, you’ll be able to find me at www.kimberlysabatini.com.
Additionally, I’d like to tip you off to something fun that I’ll be participating in. Do you watch the Amazing Race?  Well, on January 13th and 14th, I’ll be participating in the first Apocalypsie YAmazing Race!  An internet race around the blogosphere.  It’s going to be lots of fun and there will be really cool prizes–so keep those dates on your calendar.
Lastly, at the end of the month I’ll be heading to the NY SCBWI Winter Conference.  Or as we call it in my house–Daddy Party Weekend!!!  I’m very pumped because I’m reuniting with old friends, meeting some on-line friends for the first time and I’m also taking the Friday Marketing Intensive.  Lots of exciting stuff!  And of course, I promise to take lots of pictures to share with you.  :o)
So now you’ve heard all about some of the things I’m excited for in 2012–what are you looking forward to in the new year?  Come on, spill.

Vlogging Isn’t Easy

Filed under: The Class of 2k12, Touching the Surface

Last night I was a little burnt out when I remembered sat down to write this blog post.  I’d written 1,500 words for GRAVITY during the day.  Yay!  It was late and I was hungry so I thought that a quick and easy post would be the way to go.

Secret admission…I’ve been secretly envious of all those uber funny and talented vloggers, like the YA Rebels and Jackson Pearce.  So, I thought it would was time to throw together a quick vlog about a topic that I could talk about in my sleep.  Then I could high-jack Caroline Starr Rose‘s blog information about the same topic.  Presto!  Easy and fun blog post. Little did I know I could have written a classic in the time it’s taken me to fiddle with a vlog.  *head thunk*

Grrrr…  Snafu is today’s word of the day.  Not even mentioning the “difficulties” of taping the blog, I also  couldn’t get all the videos to load correctly.  As I’m writing this…at 7:22am I still can’t get the last video loaded–but maybe it’s the universes way of saying you’ve had enough embarrassment for one day.  So without further delay, here is my pilfered material and below that, my first vlog and several, but not all the out takes.  Sit back and enjoy the show although, I’m not even sure it’s going to work anyway.  Here it goes…Yeah, don’t laugh to hard.

It’s finally here! The Class of 2k12 is a group of twenty middle-grade and young adult debut novelists working in concert to promote our books and reading, and we’re ready to begin.

In honor of our friends debuting this year,we’re giving away a huge prize pack of all seventeen Class of 2k11 titles for a deserving class, school, or public library. If you’d like to nominate your favorite library, school or classroom, stop by our Facebook page and tell us about it. The winner will be announced November 12.

Feel free to pop over and visit us at any of our links and learn more about the 2k12 books, authors and events…
