I have three wonderful and very diverse events planned for the book launch of TOUCHING THE SURFACE. I’d love to give you a quick overview of what to expect so that maybe you can make one of the celebrations. I’d love to see you.
The first event is a cocktail party in NYC thrown by my absolutely adorable husband. *heart squish* If you’re near the city and would like to come and help us celebrate you can find the evite here…NYC Launch Party!!!!
The second event (still to be officially announced) will take place on Saturday Nov. 3rd in the Hudson Valley and I can’t wait to share the info with you very soon–so save the date.
The third event for launch week takes place on Sunday Nov. 4th at 4pm at Oblong Books and Music in Rhinebeck, NY. An RSVP is required for the event.
**If you are unable to make any of the book launch parties but would still like a signed copy of TOUCHING THE SURFACE, you can order one HERE!!!!!

Ummmm because I don’t have enough to do with back-to-school, soccer, construction, revisions and that little thing called a book launch. I’ve slowly started converting my mom’s slides to digital.

A very early picture of me. But I’m not important in this pic…check out what the two biggest influences in my life were wearing ROTFL! Who allowed this? And how did this effect my social and emotional growth?

Daddy and his baby *heart squish*

Home…there is no place like it.

I imagine he would have been looking at me a lot like this on October 30th. Notice the makeshift mobile with clothes pins and toys…my parents rock!

And this is why the book is dedicated to him…he always gave me a safe place to lay my head. I miss him.

Obviously my parents sense of style rubbed off on me but I think I pulled it off. LOL!
More pictures and interesting clothing choices to come. What’s the most interesting thing your parents dressed you in?

Who was the original Pete that has spawned this well used phrase? And am I even saying it right, because until Michelle Wolfson set me straight I’d always thought I had another thing coming. Yup, that’s why I’ve been stalking the UPS guy! the truth is that I have to think again because it’s…you’ve got another THINK coming. Who knew? Obviously Michelle and possibly Pete, but definitely not me. Any way, the reason I’m talking about Pete really has nothing to do with his well being. My Internet accidentally got unplugged by the guys working in the house and the pile of wires looks like scary octopus spawn and I can’t get the dang thing figured out–even for Pete’s sake. May he rest in peace. He can’t possibly be still alive.
So, I’m on my iPad way past my mandatory early to bed, the kids are back inschool and I have to be up at 5:30 time, and I’m writing a blog post because I know your day couldn’t possibly be complete without this post. *snicker* I’ve got no links and because I believe that all good posts should have a picture, I’m gonna find you something special from whatever I can find on my iPad. On second thought…that may be a bit of a problem. But I’ll see what I can do from my phone.
Forgive the typos, the lack of links and the possible invisible picture. Please. Also tell me what your favorite thing to do when the Internet is out and you can’t say read because we’re all bookworms. LOL! Okay, this mess of a blog, not even proofread is going live now because I’m going to bed.

So, you’ve convinced me that the odds are small that I’ll turn into the Crazy Cat Lady (thank you–I needed that) but I can assure you that I am well on my way to being the Crazy Sticky Note Lady. The upside of this is that there are no sticky litter boxes to clean. See, I’m back to my optimistic ways again. *grin*
So, I’m not the most organized gal on the planet and sticky notes are my friends. I’ve even stuck them to myself–don’t ask. This method of mental place holding has traditionally worked pretty well for me unless the fan is on too high. But with the book launch getting closer, I may have a few more stickies than I can handle. In fact, it might be getting a little bit out of control. Okay…maybe it’s not this bad…

…but it feels like this isn’t too far from the truth. Swag deliveries, blog posts, requested interviews and furniture orders are just some of my little yellow friends. And don’t forget about that really late anniversary card reminder for my sister-in-law. Yup, I’m at the point where I really feel like I should have better systems in place for organizing my stuff, but I also feel like I’m too far into the sticky note method. With the launch so close, it would be just as much work to change directions now. Are you wondering why I’m telling you all this? LOL! It’s to let you know that if I owe you something–like swag or an interview–feel free to send me a status query because your sticky note may have been the one blown off by the fan. The good news is that I promise to learn from my debut experiences and be much better with my next book. You on the other hand should learn from me and get your act together long BEFORE your book comes out. I promise a more detailed blog post on this in the future.
But wait–there is hope. I am making some organizational progress and I think you’ll be proud of me. Seriously! I’m getting a big girl desk!!!! It will have drawers. *sighs with pleasure* That has got to help me with my clutter issues, right? Let me show you how I’m doing…

This was the day I signed my book contract for TOUCHING THE SURFACE. *heart squish* I’ve been writing on a couple of folding tables and sitting in a chair from my mom and dad’s old kitchen table. I’ve got bins and piles EVERYWHERE!!!!

The office was extra loaded with junk from the other rooms we’ve been fixing up. So, not only did I have to empty out the regular clutter, but also the stuff I piled in from the other room too. *head thunk*

This is the middle son’s newly finished bedroom that is the temporary office. He can’t wait to kick us out and get in here.

Gahhh! Making progress but still so much stuff to move and throw out. Isn’t this making you feel better about your own office?

Phew!

In case you were wondering about my crazy walls… The previous owner of the house wall papered with real New Yorker covers about 30 years ago. As cool as they once were–they were no longer holding up to the test of time. I took our favorite and framed it for the house. Then I pulled off as many as I could and gave them to a friend who knows the old owners.

Making progress. Lots of repairs to the plaster walls. And in case you’re wondering–no I’m not doing the work. I get stressed out enough preparing to have the work done LOL! You seriously don’t want to see my lose my mind.

Not done yet, but a sneak peak at the walls. I’m loving the Tuscan Terra Cotta color. Can’t wait for the crown molding to go in.
More to come when it’s all done. I’m so excited to have a new work space–with a nice big wall for all my sticky notes. Just kidding–sort of. Do you have an office? Where do you work or write? What would your dream office look like? What do you hate about your work space now? What color would you pick for your walls? Are you a hoarder on the verge or did I blind you when you saw my mess? Inquiring minds want to know.

So it’s 52 days until TOUCHING THE SURFACE comes out and I’m in limbo–ironic since I’ve written a book about the afterlife LOL! But yes, I’m in a rather strange place at the moment. I seem to be fluctuating between insane excitement and certain dread. I dream about walking into a book store and seeing my book on the shelf. I imagine hearing from readers who love the story. I can visualize my future career and it ROCKS! Some days I can’t believe how stinkin’ lucky I am.
But all it takes is ten minutes.
Yup, that quickly I can go from confidence and bliss to thumping my forehead against my desk, knowing with absolute certainty that I will never sell another book again. Realizing that my book stinks to the high heavens and all my dreams will be crushed forever. There is even complete conviction that one day, people will point and snicker at me and say.. Isn’t that the cat lady who tried to write a book and FAILED EPICALLY? Sad…very sad. They say she’s lost her mind.

From hearing my fellow debut authors talk, I know that this is a pretty normal experience, but honestly it feels a bit bizarre. In order to try to combat the crazy, I’ve tried to come up with a list of MY universal truths to help me put things in perspective. Since writing them down will help me, and because I can’t leave you thinking about me as the cat lady, I thought you might like to hear them too.
*Change can be scary but it doesn’t mean it’s bad.
*You can’t control the things you can’t control.
*There is always something else you could be doing, but that doesn’t mean you should be doing it.
*The best place to live is the moment.
*Stop comparing yourself to other people.
*Everyone is suspicious of people who try to get outside the box, but they usually admire the ones who make it.
*Not everyone will like you–get over it.
*There are people who show you unexpected kindness that you don’t think you deserve. Instead of pushing it away, accept it and try to give it away to someone else who thinks they might not deserve it.
*Try to eat healthy, get enough sleep and exercise.
*Even in your most insecure moments, keep your list of dreams where you can see them.
*Go with the flow.
*Remember why you dream the things you do.
*Always strive to grow.
*If all else fails, eat chocolate ice cream and run more.
Any other words of wisdom for the crazy cat lady? Come on…talk me down people.
